Board of Directors – Welcomes and Farewells

With our AGM taking place in late October, this is a good time to update you on changes to our Board of Directors over the last year.

We are delighted to have appointed three new directors to the board of GAS during this time. Kerry Buist, Gary Wade and Louise Ferguson each come with different personal and professional backgrounds, bringing a wealth of skills and experience to the board – as well as passion and commitment!

Gary has already been deeply involved in launching and running our online support group, and Louise has been brought invaluable HR experience to our organisation. Kerry has helped us to develop an online service user survey and to launch a crowd-funding page, and has also brought great campaigning experience to our board. We will tell you more of their backgrounds in future newsletters.

We are also saying farewell to three directors who have each served the society for more than 10 years. Shona Hamilton’s career in legal practice meant she has been our go-to person for legal matters for many years.  She also served faithfully on our Finance and Governance committee.  Tom Wilson brought both personal and professional experience of ASCs, having an adult son on the spectrum as well as having experience as an autism outreach practitioner for Aberdeen City education authority.  Tom brought great understanding of autism as well as wisdom to the board and to our Staff and Services committee over many years.  Catherine Duthie has been a lynch-pin in our Finance and Governance Team and has provided tremendous services to us over the years, especially in preparation of our annual audits. We are pleased that Shona, Tom and Catherine are planning to keep in touch and support the society in other ways in the future. We wish them all the very best as they step down from their board appointments.
