We are delighted to welcome Kate Raffan to our board. We asked Kate to tell us a bit more about herself!
“Hi, my name is Kate Raffan and I am a Mum of 3. I work as an analytical chemist at a power station and I love my job. My oldest two are now young adults and are autistic and my youngest we are unsure at the moment. For us the autism only really became apparent as they reached academy age and we felt completely ill prepared. Navigating the educational system and health care system was extremely difficult and we found our world turned upside down with nobody to speak to. I found online support groups a life-saver and this is why I got involved with Grampian Autistic Society Support Group. Looking back it seems obvious now that autism runs in our family on both my side and my husband’s. I have a counselling skills qualification and am also a mental health first aider at work. In my spare time I enjoy walking and reading and have recently become a Rainbows leader.”
